Coral Reef Restoration

Overview

Restoring coral reefs, one colony at a time.

Healthy coral reefs are the foundation of thriving marine ecosystems, supporting marine life, protecting coastlines, and sustaining coastal livelihoods. Through science-based restoration, we cultivate resilient corals in underwater nurseries, transplant them onto degraded reefs, and monitor their recovery over time. By combining restoration, research, and community stewardship, we are helping rebuild living reefs that can support both people and nature for generations to come.

RESTORATION SITES

01

RESTORATION SITES

Our restoration sites are carefully selected based on ecological assessments, reef health, biodiversity, and the potential for long-term recovery. Working alongside scientists, local communities, and conservation partners, we identify degraded reef areas where restoration can make the greatest impact.

CORAL NURSERIES

02

CORAL NURSERIES

Coral nurseries are the foundation of our reef restoration efforts. They provide a safe environment where healthy coral fragments can grow, strengthen, and develop before being transplanted onto degraded reefs. We have established and tested multiple nursery designs to identify the most effective approaches for different coral species, environmental conditions, and restoration goals. By combining scientific research with practical field experience, we continuously refine our techniques to improve coral survival, growth, and long-term resilience. Each nursery is carefully monitored to assess coral health, growth rates, and environmental conditions. The knowledge gained not only strengthens our restoration work but also contributes to building best practices for coral conservation along Tanzania's Indian Ocean coast.

MONITORING & DATA COLLECTION

03

MONITORING & DATA COLLECTION

Successful coral restoration is built on continuous learning. Every restoration site is regularly monitored to measure coral survival, growth, reef health, and the return of marine life. By collecting reliable ecological data, we evaluate the effectiveness of our restoration methods and make informed decisions that improve long-term outcomes. Our monitoring includes coral health assessments, biodiversity surveys, environmental observations, and photographic documentation to track changes over time. This evidence helps us understand how reefs recover, identify emerging challenges, and refine our restoration strategies. By combining field observations with scientific data, we ensure our work is transparent, measurable, and guided by evidence creating stronger, more resilient marine ecosystems for the future.
